Dome Soltaniyeh of Öljeitü, from Ill-khanid dynasty in Zanjan was built from 1302 to 1312 and is considered as of the noticeable buildings of Iran Islamic architecture. The dome is the largest historical dome of Iran and the largest dome made by brick in the world. The great dome of Florence cathedral was inspired by this dome of Soltaniyeh. The main structure of the dome and the building is made from brick, while the dome is decorated with mosaic tiles in turquoise and azure.
The golden, octagonal tiles which is used in some parts of the building are unique. A very interesting point about this building is that it was used as a sun clock. Thus, the sunlight which passes through the great window indicated hour while the sunlight coming from the smaller window shows minutes.
